Who has not seen Chernivtsi, he has not seen Ukraine!

On March 17, 2019, students of Ivano-Frankivsk College of Specialties “Preschool Education” and “Primary Education” together with Bohdan Maksymets visited the magical city of Chernivtsi. The excursion was conducted to get acquainted with the sights of the history and culture of Ukraine. The city met with excursionists warm and sunny weather, so good mood was assured.

At first, the students were able to see the ship-house, the Basilica of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, and the church of the Blessed Paraskeva nearby. Then they strolled along Maria Zankovetskaya Street and examined the monument to T. Shevchenko in the Central Square. The lively performance of the song “Marichka” from the tower of Chernivtsi Town Hall, which sounds daily at 12.00 am, was astonishing to everyone.

Further, participants of the excursion visited the central building of Chernivtsi National University – the former residence of the Orthodox Metropolitan of Bukovina and Dalmatia. It was extremely interesting to learn about the history of this magnificent architectural ensemble. Afterwards, the students visited the Theater Square, the twin houses, the former main Synagogue (now the Chernivtsi cinema), the lion house, which now houses the Chernivtsi Regional State Administration.

Then the travelers walked through the crowded street of Olga Kobylyanska – the most beautiful in Chernivtsi, which is very reminiscent of Ivano-Frankivsk Stometrivka. They also visited the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, the Gothic Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, visited the Armenian Cathedral, visited the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the UGCC with a refined iconostasis, the St. Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral with twisted baths.

The excursion students were then able to visit the cemetery on Green Street (there are two more in Ukraine: Lychakivske in Lviv and Lukyanivskyi cemetery in Kiev), consisting of Christian and Jewish cemeteries. From here, a magnificent view of the Chernivtsi evening was opened. The excursion to the Turkish Well Square has ended.

Exhausted, hungry, but satisfied with the trip, the students returned to their native Ivano-Frankivsk with the unforgettable impressions of Chernivtsi, which is in vain called the “little Vienna” of Bukovina.
